Tempe Festival of the Arts

About The Festival

2014 Fall Festival | December 5 – 7, 2014
10am to 5:30pm | Free Admission

The Tempe Festival of the Arts consistently ranks among the Top 200 art festivals in the nation by Sunshine Artist Magazine and has received the prestigious Pinnacle Award from the International Festival and Events Association. The spring and fall events each attract nearly 225,000 visitors to the Mill Avenue District over the course of a 3-day weekend.

Quality independent artists are fundamental to the success of the event. Each Festival receives more than 700 applications from throughout North America, in 16 different visual arts categories that range from wood to photography to ceramics, wearable art, jewelry and other categories. From these applicants, a jury comprised of members of the local art community ranks the top artisans in each category to participate in the Festival, and the highest ranking artists receive invitations to participate. During the Festival, a new jury selects the best overall artist and the top artist in each category and these winners receive cash honoraria awards.

As many as 400 artist booths line Mill Avenue and the surrounding streets presenting unique, and hand-made artwork that offers visitors a distinctive shopping experience.
While the Tempe Festival of the Arts focuses on visual art and the artists who create it, there also is a wide variety of other activity for guests to enjoy. Live entertainment provides fun for festival-goers. Performances throughout the venue keep audiences in high spirits throughout the day. In addition to the Festival Stage, street performers, food and beverage vendors, sponsor exhibits, and entertainment booths are set up for the amusement of Festival visitors. Visit the Arizona Wine Festival for tastings and sales by the glass, bottle, or case. And, enjoy The Art of Beer featuring local microbrewery sampling and sales.

In addition to arts and entertainment, the Tempe Festival of the Arts offers support to the Tempe community. A portion of the proceeds raised at the Festival benefits local Tempe charities whose volunteers provide on-site staffing during the event.

At the Kids Innovation Station, children experience their own hands-on art making free and take home their masterpieces.

Man’s Best Friend: Well-behaved dogs may attend the Festival on leash. The Festival reserves the right to remove any dog and its owner from the premises.
Address of the showcase:

Champaign Tasting Results

The winner: Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blanc 2002

The results of the champagne tastings were #1 Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blanc 2002 $135; #2 Pol Gardere Brut $32 and #3 Delamotte Blanc De Blanc 2002 $95.

#4 Ruinart Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blanc 2002 (France) $135 This is the top line from Ruinart, a long time Champagne maker. This is a chardonnay only Champagne. This was probably my all time favorite and we have been doing the blind tastings for ten years now. Obviously the price tag makes this a special occasion champagne. Wine Spectator had rated it '96'.The less expensive Ruinart Brut Blanc de Blanc $65 may be as good - we shall see.

#8 Pol Gardere Brut (France) $32. This was a last minute addition. Mel and I were champagne tasting at "Bubbles" in Morgan Hill and we tried this little gem. One magazine placed Pol Gardere as one of the top 10 bargain sparkling wines. This was one of the favorites of the group. My own personal notes was it was semi-smooth with a nice taste that would be workable if the price was right - which it is.

#1 Delamotte Blanc de Blanc (France) $95 - this is a chardonnay only champagne, it is the second labeling of the winery, the first one is Salon, only produced on exceptional years and usually runs $300;

For those of you who are interested in the order of the tasting, here goes:

#1 Delamotte Blanc de Blanc (France) $95
#2 Cordoniu Napa Grand Reserve Brut (USA) $42
#3 Ferghettina Franciacorte Milledi (Italy) 2009 $60
#5 Ayala Champagne Majeur Brut (France) $50.
#6 J.M. Seleque Brut (France) $35
#7 G.M Mumm Cuvee R. Lalou 1999 (France) $349
#8 Pol Gardere Brut (France) $32
#9 Heidsieck & Co. Monopole Brut Blue Top (France) $35.
#10 Pol Roger Brut Reserve Reserve (White Top) (France) $60

So that was the rundown.
Address of the showcase:
